“Despite its current global popularity (or perhaps because of it), a clear understanding of the historical contexts of yoga in South Asia is often lacking, as well as the range of practices it encompasses. It's due, at least in part, limited access to textual material.
[…] As part of the recent transmission of yoga, the almost total hegemony of a small number of systems based on postural practice has strengthened a narrow and monochromatic vision of what yoga is and how it works, and this is even more evident if we compare this vision with the wide spectrum of practices presented in premodern texts. We are finalizing the program but we are too excited not to give you some more information about Darśana's next route that will accompany us for the autumn!
A path “a tappe” connected to each other by a red thread that we called: between tapas and haṭha and that will put three researchers in dialogue with three different approaches but with a common passion.
The dates identified are:
– 17 October with Laura Liberale
– 21 November with Silvia Patrizio
– 4 December with Daniela Bevilacqua.
A path to deepen the ascetic practices between history, ethnography and texts, where there will be some unpublished contributions.
Laura Liberal and Silvia Patrick they are practically an institution for Darśana, having contributed decisively to its birth, while the friend Daniela Bevilacqua will be the new entry of this path, able to integrate and in some way “complete” with the ethnographic approach, the kaleidoscopic gaze that we have tried to return, starting from the choice of the name, with this path of in-depth studies now in its third edition.
We still have to work out the details and decide how long the meetings will be 3 or 5 ore, according to the needs of the rapporteur and the cut she wants to give.
Participation in presence will be privileged but, where necessary, it will be possible to participate in live streaming.
